Romagnoli Named Academic All-American

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois men's gymnast Travis Romagnoli earned first-team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American honors for the second time in as many years, as announced today by the award committee.
Romagnoli, the senior from Aurora, Ontario, is accustomed to the accolades. He earned GTE/CoSIDA honors last season and was named a GymInfo academic all-american in three straight years. He has a 3.34 GPA in bioengineering and will graduate with his undergraduate degree in May of 2001.
During his four years at Illinois, the senior led the team to four top-10 finishes including a third-place national finish in 1998. In that year, Romagnoli won the NCAA all-around national championship and vault national title. He was the Big Ten's Gymnast of the Year in 1998 and a member of the all-Big Ten team. He was a finalist this season for the Nissen Award, the highest honor given to a collegiate gymnast.
