Illinois will compete in the afternoon qualifying session at the NCAA Championships.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The fourth-ranked Illini men's gymnastics team will compete in the afternoon qualifying session of the 2011 NCAA Championships on Thursday, April 14 at noon CT/1 p.m. ET hosted by Ohio State at St. John Arena in Columbus. Illinois remained at No. 4 in this week's national rankings, which ranked teams by a national qualifying average. Illinois compiled a team score of 355.500 to claim its third straight Big Ten title last Friday night, bringing its national qualifying average to 354.600.
Joining the Illini in the afternoon session is top-ranked Oklahoma (359.683), No. 5 Penn State (351.283), No. 8 Minnesota (345.367), No. 9 Air Force (344.200) and No. 12 UIC (340.800). The evening session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET and will feature No. 2 Stanford (359.683), No. 3 Cal (354.904), defending champion No. 6 Michigan (350.708), No. 7 Ohio State (345.800), No. 10 Nebraska (342.442) and No. 11 Iowa (341.025).
Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals session on Friday, April 15 at 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET. The individual event finals will take place on Saturday, April 16 at 6 p.m. CT.
Illinois took fourth place at the 2010 NCAA Championships with a score of 354.900. Individually, five Illini earned All-America honors including redshirt senior Chad Wiest (floor), juniors Tyler Mizoguchi (all-around) and Anthony Sacramento (rings) and graduated seniors Luke Stannard (pommel horse) and Tyler Williamson (rings).
All seating in St. John Arena will be general admission with single-session tickets starting at $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors and $5 for groups of 10 or more. All-session tickets also can be purchased for $28 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. Group tickets must be purchased in advance.
