PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Redshirt sophomore Austin Phillips (Mahwah, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and newcomer Alex Varga (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Wheaton Academy) earned Freshman of the Week honors, announced Monday by the conference office. The duo each captured individual event titles in helping lead the Illini to a dominating win over UIC last Saturday to conclude the regular season. It is the first such accolade for Phillips and Varga, while it is Illinois' seventh gymnast of the week and second freshman of the week this season.

Varga captured his first-career event title on vault with a career-high score of 16.000, while also tying for second on floor with a 14.800.
