CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
With all six Big Ten teams ranked in the top 10 nationally, the 2007 Big Ten Championships are sure to keep fans and athletes alike on the edge of their seats. Ranked No. 1 and 2 in the nation, respectively, Ohio State and Michigan will face each other for the third time this year as both are contenders for the title this season. For Ohio State, a win in Minneapolis would be its third consecutive title, making it the first team to do so since host Minnesota accomplished the feat from 1990-92.
For Illinois, a 214.950 set against Iowa is the Illini's season high and was achieved without the Orange and Blue's top gymnast, Wes Haagensen, entered in all six events. "If all expectations come to fruition," head coach Yoshi Hayasaki said, "Illini fans can hope to see scores between the range of 215-217 come NCAAs, giving them a shot for a finish in the top-three this weekend."
FLOOR EXERCISE
Heading into this weekend, the Illini will face some of their toughest competition on all six events. Leading the nation on floor exercise is Michigan's Kent Caldwell, posting a three-score average 9.667. POMMEL HORSE
An event that the Orange and Blue have struggled on all season, the team will look toward freshman Luke Stannard to carry the load. The Waukegan, Ill., native holds the Illini's top season score of a 8.950.
