    Maestas Named CGA Gymnast of the Week

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fighting Illini C.J. Maestas has been named CGA Gymnast of the Week for his impressive performance against No. 9 Iowa, for the week of Feb. 9. 

    Maestas took home the titles on rings, parallel bars (14.850), and all-around (89.200), helping the No. 4 Illini to a 433.350-420.300 win over Iowa. 

    Maestas captured his fourth still rings title of the season, and set the NCAA record under the new scoring system established in 2008, with a score of 16.450. The previous record, set by Dave Sender of Stanford in 2008, was 16.350. Maestas also placed second on the floor exercise (14.850).

    The award marks Maestas' second consecutive CGA Gymnast of the Week win of the season. 

    The Orange and Blue will return to action this coming Saturday, Feb. 15, traveling to University Park, Pa. to take on Penn State at 3 p.m. CT.
