    Las Vegas, Nevada - Illinois senior Linh Hoang and true-freshman Scott Wetterling have qualified for the final session of the 2001 Winter Cup Challange at the Pepsi/All-Sport Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The top 36 finishers in the two qualifying sessions as well as 2000 Olympians Blaine Wilson and Sean Townsend will compete Saturday night for three spots on the United States national gymnastics team.

    Finishing 15th overall, Hoang scored a 49.050 in the first preliminary session while teammate Wetterling scored a 47.200 in the same session for 26th place overall.

    The duo will be up against some familiar competition from rival Big Ten gymnasts: Raj Bhavasar from Ohio State, Clay Strother and Eric Steele of Minnesota, Kevin Donahue and Matt Abboud from Penn State, Brad Kenna, Kris Zimmerman and Daniel Diaz-Luong of Michigan and Cameron Schieck, Justin Leavitt and Andy Thornton of Iowa.

    The final session is scheduled for a 9:45 Central start.
