    Romagnoli Wins Four Events

    Romagnoli Wins Four Events - 2/31/99

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Despite NCAA defending national champion Travis Romagnoli winning four events and the all-around competition, the Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team fell to Iowa in a dual meet 224.725-226.850, Saturday night at Huff Hall.

    With the loss, the Illini fall to 3-7, 2-7 in the Big Ten.

    Junior, seven-time all-american Travis Romagnoli (Jr., Aurora, Ontario) won the all-around with the best score in the nation, 57.950, while also picking up wins on the vault, floor, parallel bars and high bar. Romagnoli set team season-highs in four of the five events: all-around 57.950, vault 9.725, parallel bars 9.750 and high bar 9.70.

    Junior Linh Hoang (Houston, Texas) had an outstanding meet finishing third in the all-around (55.675), second on vault (9.625) and fifth in the floor exercise (9.450). Sophomore Leo Oka (Scarborough, Ontario) finished second on floor with a 9.550 and set a new career-high on pommel horse with a 9.350.

    The Illini will be back in action on Feb. 14 when they travel to Chicago to take on Illinois-Chicago. Meet time is set for 2 p.m.
