    LAS VEGAS -- Three members of the Illinois men's gymnastics team competed in the individual event finals Saturday at the US Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas. Illinois had more representation in the finals than any other team. The field of the 94 top competitiors in the country was narrowed on Friday night as the participants in each event final were six athletes who posted the highest scores in the individual events during the all-around finals.

    Freshman Ben Newman led the Illini delegation with a score of 8.700 good for a fourth place finish on the pommel horse. Senior J.G. Ketchen took fifth on the high bar, scoring a 7.450. Sophomore Scott Wetterling came in fifth on the vault with an average of 8.887 on his vaults from the two rounds.

    The seven Illini who made the trip to Nevada rejoin their teammates on Sunday for an afternoon dual meet at UIC.
