David Sender joins the Illini this year as a volunteer assistant coach after a stellar collegiate career of his own. Sender continues to train and is a current member of the U.S. senior national team.
Sender, who was a two-time NCAA champion on vault at Stanford, has had success at the both the national and international levels.
The Arlington Heights, Ill., native was crowned champion in the all-around and on vault at the 2008 U.S. Visa Championships. He also won on vault at the 2006 U.S. Visa Championships and the 2007 and 2005 U.S. Winter Cup Challenges.
Sender, an 11-time U.S. senior national team member, competed for Team USA at the 2006 World Championships and took fourth on vault less than two years later at the 2008 World Cup.
Sender will continue to train in an effort to make the 2012 Olympic team and is currently enrolled in the veterinary program at the University of Illinois.
