Regular in Illinois' floor exercise, vault and parallel bars line-ups and competed three times on high bar in 2004...Set career highs on all four events during the season: floor exercise - 9.100 at Oklahoma; vault - 9.100 on three occasions, last at the Big Ten Championships; parallel bars - 8.800 vs. Minnesota and Temple; high bar - 8.450 at Ohio State...CGA All-American Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Freshman 2003
Competed in four events for the Illini during his rookie campaign and saw action in every meet...Floor exercise season high was an 8.800 which he received vs. then No. 1-ranked Oklahoma and at the Big Ten preliminaries...Scored a season high of 8.200 on the still rings at UIC...Earned a season high of 9.100 on vault at the Southwest Cup...Score of 8.350 on the parallel bars were season highs in that event...First year letter winner.

Competed for coaches Matt Stevenson and Jim Surgent at Surgent's Elite Gymnastics along with fellow former Illini Pete Shostchuk and Ted Brown...Attended Roselle Catholic High School...Finished eighth on the floor exercise and vault and 24th in the all-around at the 2002 nationals...Was 27th in the all-around at the 2001 nationals...In 2000, he finished seventh on the floor exercise at nationals...Was the 1998 national vaulting champion and also finished fifth in the all-around that year...Four-time New Jersey State Champion from 1997-2000.

Born Anthony Russo on June, 1984 in Elizabeth, N.J....Son of Michael and Robin Russo...His father is an electronic technician and his mother works as a dental hygienist...Has an other brother...In high school, he was the class president and was a member of the National and Hispanic Honors Societies...Says his family influenced his athletic career most because they have always been there for him.
