    The Illini took down Minnesota, 21-9, in a match play meet on March 8, 2013.

    Ivan Ivankov is in his sixth season as an assistant coach for the Illini in 2013-14. He is a four-time Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year and the 2012 National Assistant Coach of the Year.

    In 2012, Ivankov was named National Assistant Coach of the Year for the first time in his career and Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year after helping Illinois to its first national title since 1989 and fourth consecutive Big Ten title.

    In 2011, Ivankov helped Illinois to its third straight Big Ten title and a third-place finish at NCAAs, where four Illini earned All-America status and two were crowned champion on individual events. For his efforts, he garnered his third straight Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor.

    In 2010, he earned his second Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year accolade for his role in helping the Illini to an 11-1 regular season mark and a second consecutive Big Ten title.

    Following his stint as a visiting assistant in 2009, he was promoted to assistant coach after helping Illinois to a Big Ten title, fifth-place finish at NCAAs and three individual NCAA crowns to earn Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors along with Justin Spring.

    The 1994 and 1997 World All-Around Champion and two-time Olympian, Ivankov spent five years as a men's team coach at the Bart Connor Gymnastics Academy in Norman, Okla. During his time there he was coach to Rohan Sebastian, a Level 10 gymnast representing Ireland at the 2007 Junior European championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.

    One of the most decorated gymnasts in the world, Ivankov won 10 World Championship medals, including three gold. The Minsk, Belarus, native competed at the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics. He retired from international competition in 2006 after competing at the World Championships. Ivankov achieved the highest athletic level "Master of Sport" in his native land.
