Global Golf Post All-Amateur Second Team

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois sophomore Thomas Detry was named a second-team All-Amateur by the Global Golf Post this week, the publication announced. In the vein of so many college football All-America teams, Global Golf Post attempted to honor the top amateur, mid-amateur and senior amateur men's and women's players in the world.

Detry, a native of Brussels, Belgium, was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2013, after posting a stroke average of 72.88, second on the team only to Thomas Pieters. This fall, Detry posted a 70.92 average in four tournaments and earned his first collegiate victory by winning the Wolf Run Invitational with a 54-hole total of 209 (-4).

Detry and the Illini, which were ranked No. 6 in the final Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll on Wednesday, open the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 25, with the annual Tinervin Cup event against Illinois State in Placida, Fla.
