Small to Compete in 2013 PGA Cup

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois head men's golf coach Mike Small will play in the 26th PGA Cup Friday, Sept. 20, through Sunday, Sept. 22, at De Vere Slaley Hall Hunting Course in Northumberland, England, as part of the United States team. The team of America's top playing PGA professionals will face off against a team of PGA professionals from Great Britain and Ireland in the Ryder Cup-style tournament. The teams will compete in foursomes (two-man teams in alternate shot), four-ball (two-man teams in better ball) and singles (18 holes at match play).
It will mark the fifth-straight time that Small has been a member of the U.S. team for the PGA Cup, which is held every two years. The United States team is composed of six rookies and four veterans, while the GB&I team is made up of 10 rookies to the competition. Qualification for the U.S. team is based on points awarded from the 2012 and 2013 PGA Professional National Championships and PGA Championships. Allen Wronowski is serving as captain of the U.S. team.
The United States team leads the overall series 17-5-3. Small is 6-10-3 in PGA Cup action but the U.S. is 3-1 in PGA Cups in which Small plays.
