GCAA Preseason Rankings

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois men's golf team stood at No. 6 in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason poll, the organization announced Thursday. The Fighting Illini finished 2013-14 by reaching the eight-team match play finals at the NCAA Championships before falling to top-seeded Stanford in the quarterfinals. It marked the third time in the last four years Illinois had accomplished that feat.

Illinois returns five of six players on last season's roster, as Jonathan Hauter graduated after a career season in 2013-14. All-Americans Brian Campbell, Charlie Danielson and Thomas Detry will lead the way, while Alex Burge and David Kim have been regulars in the lineup over the past two seasons.

The Illini added four freshmen for 2014-15: Nick Hardy, Dylan Meyer, Colin Proctor and Spencer Reed. Nick Hardy had an impressive summer reaching the semifinals of the 2014 Western Amateur and qualifying for the 2014 U.S. Amateur, while Meyer earned an alternate spot for the U.S. Amateur and finished third at the 2014 Indiana state high school championships. Proctor was the No. 5 player in the state of Indiana in the class of 2014 and Reed won the 2013 PGA Junior Series at Westbrook.

The Orange and Blue open the fall season with the annual Olympia Fields Country Club/Illini Invitational outside Chicago on Sept. 12-14, before traveling to the Wolf Run Intercollegiate (Sept. 20-21), Sagamore Preview (Oct. 13-14) and the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational - which was formerly the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational - (Oct. 19-21).
