CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois sophomore Charlie Danielson reached the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur in Brookline, Mass., with a 3-and-1 victory over Chase Koepka Thursday morning, but fell to Temple's Brandon Matthews, 3 and 2, falling short of a berth in the quarterfinals. It capped an incredible run by the rising sophomore, who finished tied for 38th in two rounds of stroke play with scores of 72-71=143 (+3).

Danielson has had an impressive summer, finishing second in the Wisconsin State Amateur and finished 33rd in the Sunnehanna Amateur earlier in the summer.
