Three Illini make the cut at Illinois State Amateur

Bloomington, Ill. - Luke Guthrie shot a two-under par 68 to move into a tie for fifth at the Illinois State Amateur in Bloomington, Ill., on Wednesday. Guthrie started the day with two birdies in his first four holes and sits at +1 for the tournament through 36 holes on the 6,500-yard par 70 Bloomington Country Club Course.
The tournament began with 135 players and the field was cut to the top 30 midway through the championship. Three of those players are current Illini. Defending champion Zach Barlow, fresh off a runner-up finish at the 107th Western Amateur, is in a six-way tie for 25th at +7 after a second-round 75.
The players will shoot the final 36 holes on Thursday in Bloomington to determine the championship. Local favorite Todd Mitchell leads the tournament at -3, one stroke ahead of Brad Benjamin and Joe Kenney. Champaign's Tim Hoss is in a three-way tie with Guthrie for fifth at +1.
