Western Amateur Round of 16 Matches

CHICAGO - Three University of Illinois golfers advanced to the 16-player match-play portion of the Western Amateur on Thursday, as senior Brian Campbell, junior Charlie Danielson and freshman Nick Hardy stayed alive in the prestigious tournament. Danielson finished stroke play 11th at -7 overall, while Campbell and Hardy were tied for 12th at -6 after Friday's 36-hole day. Match play begins Friday morning with the round of 16 matches, followed by quarterfinal matches in the afternoon.

Danielson posted a 4-under 67 in the morning on Friday, followed by a 69 in the afternoon, to rebound from his 73 on Wednesday. Hardy remained consistent, firing rounds of 70-69 on Friday, while Campbell notched a pair of even-par 71s on Friday. Illinois freshman Dylan Meyer did not make Wednesday's cut to the top 44 players and ties, finishing tied for 120th at +8.
