Springfield, Ill. - Six members of the Illinois golf team competed at the U.S. Open local qualifier at Illini Country Club in Springfield Monday. They were vying for five spots in the Sectional Qualifier June 8. Of those, sophomore Scott Langley will advance. Langley was one of five players to fire a four-under par 67 on the day and advance.

Langley overcame a tough start, playing the first three holes at two-over par, to make seven birdies and an eagle on the day. He played the par-71 course at -4, but came into the final three holes at even par. He proceeded to end his round with an eagle and two birdies.

"I still have some work to do, but overall I'm pleased with the round," Langley said. "I felt a little weird not be playing for my teammates, but I just tried to play as hard as I could. Now I want to focus on getting ready for Nationals."

Illinois finished third at the NCAA Southeast Regional to advance to the NCAA Championship on May 26-30 at the Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Other Illinois scores from the U.S. Open local qualifier included freshman Luke Guthrie, 69 (T7th); sophomore Chris DeForest and freshman Mason Jacobs, 70 (T10th); junior Zach Barlow 71 (T16th); and junior Clayton Parkhill (T29th), 75.
