Park Ridge, Ill. - Illinois sophomore Matt Hoffman has been named Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week.
Hoffman posted his first career top-ten finish by placing ninth at the Louisiana Classic March 10-11. He shot a two-over par 218 in the 54-hole event, firing a 71 in the second round. He had his second straight solid weekend after tying for 19th place at the Argonaut Invitational Feb. 25-26.
Illinois finished in the top three for the second straight tournament to start the 2008 spring season. The Illini placed third after a second-place finish at the Argonaut Invite.
Hoffman becomes the second Illini this season to be named Big Ten Golfer of the Week. Freshman Scott Langley won the award on Feb. 27 after claiming the Argonaut Invitational individual medalist. This is the first time since 2003 that two Illinois golfers have won the award in the same season.
