March 12, 2007
Champaign, Ill. - Illini senior Patrick Nagle has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week by the conference office. Nagle earned the honor after tying the best performance of his collegiate career last week.
Nagle was runner-up at the 21st annual Louisiana Classics, held March 5-6 at the par 72, 7,141 Oakbourne Country Club Golf Course in Lafayette, La. He finished the tournament in second place out of 80 golfers with an 8-under-par total of 208 strokes. Nagle shot back-to-back season-low rounds of 3-under-par 69 on Monday and wrapped up play with a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday.
It was the 20th Top-10 finish of Nagle's career and tied his career-high finish, equaling the four runner-up finishes that he had during his freshman season of 2002-03. His three-round score of 208 was just one shy of his career best and ranks as the fifth lowest 54-hole score in school history.
Nagle and the Illini return to the course next week, competing March 19-20 at the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif.
