PARK RIDGE, Ill. - University of Illinois senior Mason Jacobs and sophomore Brian Campbell were named Co-Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. The Illini duo tied for fifth place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
Campbell and Jacobs each shot a one-over-par 217 at the event, leading Illinois to a third-place finish as a team in the 16-team event. Campbell fired a four-under-par 68 in the opening round and notched the second-most birdies in the tournament with 11. It is his first career Big Ten weekly honor.
Jacobs posted one-under-par 71s in the first and third rounds and shot par or better on 46 of 54 holes. He earned his second career weekly honor from the Big Ten. The pair become the second and third Illini to win Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors this season, as freshman Thomas Detry also earned the honor on Feb. 13.
The Illini return to action Monday and Tuesday, March 4-5, at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.
