PARK RIDGE, Ill. - University of Illinois freshman Thomas Detry was named the Big Ten men's golfer of the week, the conference announced Wednesday. Detry helped Illinois to an undefeated 14-0-1 record and a Big Ten Match Play championship last weekend in Bradenton, Fla., by winning all three of his matches in convincing fashion.

Detry never had to play past the 15th hole in any of his victories over golfers from Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State in the tournament, winning 5 and 4, 4 and 3, and 4 and 3, respectively. He won or halved 38 of the 44 (86.3 percent) holes that he played in the tournament.

It is Detry's first career golfer of the week honor and the first for an Illinois golfer since Luke Guthrie won the award on April 25, 2012. Detry and the Illini return to action on Feb. 18-19 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
