Waco, Texas - The Illinois men's golf team stands in seventh place out of 18 teams after 36 holes of golf today at the Henry Griffitts/Baylor Invitational. Host Butler and Lamar are tied for first in the tournament, which is being held on the par-70, 6,469-yard Ridgewood Country Club course in Waco, Texas. The Illini shot a morning round score of 288 and added an afternoon score of 283, to account for a two-round total of 571, 11-over par and 16 strokes behind Baylor and Lamar, who each shot 555.
Individually, Illini freshman Garrett Chaussard (Millbrae, Calif./Junipero Serra HS) is tied for 14th place, standing at even par (140) through two rounds of golf. Chaussard fired a one-under 69 in round one and followed that with an afternoon score of one-over 71. Right behind Chaussard is fellow Illini freshman James Lepp (Abbotsford, B.C., Canada/M.E.I.) who is currently tied for 19th place at two-over (142). Lepp carded rounds of even-par 70 in round one and two-over 72 in round two. Baylor's Adam Meyer is in first place out of the 90-player field at seven-under.
Rounding out the scoring for the Illini in the first round was sophomore Ryan Tendall with a 74 and junior Geoff Lound with a 75. In the second round of competition, Lound responded with a one-under 69, while Tendall carded a 71. Individually, Lound is tied for 32nd at four-over par (144), while Tendall is in a tie for 36th place at five-over (145).
Making his first trip of the fall season, UI sophomore Ryan Moore shot rounds of 76 and 74 for a total of 150, which puts him in a tie for 65th place.
The final round of golf at the Henry Griffitts/Baylor Invitational begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
