    Illinois Wraps up Fall Season at Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge

    Bandon, Ore. - Illinois shot a final-round score of 307 today to finish in 12th place with a 54-hole total of 932 strokes at the third annual Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge, held at the par 71, 6,633-yard Pacific Dunes Course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

    UCLA won the event with a score of 885, defeating USC by five strokes. Jamie Lovemark of USC was medalist at -4, the only golfer in the 60-player field to finish below par. The Pac-10 won the conference challenge portion of the tournament by 29 strokes (4,488-4,517), which was decided by totaling each league's low five team scores from each round. The Pac-10 now holds a 2-1 edge in the Challenge with next year's event returning to Big Ten country at The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill.

    Senior Kyle Hosick was Illinois' top finisher for the second consecutive tournament, tying for 28th place with a score of 229. Junior Mark Ogren and sophomore Jon Krick tied for 48th at 236, seven strokes behind Hosick. Freshman Matt Hoffman and junior Danny Zimmerman posted their best scores of the tournament during today's final round, with Zimmerman shooting a 3-over 74 and Hoffman adding a 5-over 76. Hoffman tied for 51st overall with a 237 while Zimmerman tied for 55th at 240.

    This concludes the 2006 fall season for the Illini.
