WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Illinois junior Larry Nuger (Longmeadow, Mass.) shot a one-under-par 71 in the third and final round of the Northern Intercollegiate today to finish in a tie for seventh place. His three-round total was 223. Freshman Geoff Lound (New South Whales, Australia) also shot a 71 in the final round. His total score of 226 placed him in a tie for 22nd. Tim Riley (Jr., Belleville, Ill.) finished the tournament tied for 25th with a total of 228. Senior Greg Pittenger (Coto de Caza, Calif.) had a tournament total of 236 placing him in a tie for 50th. Freshman Evan Olson (Wheaton, Ill.) finished one stroke behind Pittenger at 237 which placed him in a tie for 52nd.
Throughout the Northern Intercollegiate the Illini improved as a team. After round one, Illinois was tied with Purdue for eighth. They finished sixth out of 13 on the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. The course is the tentative sight of the Big Ten Conference championship in May. Illinois placed higher than three of the eight conference teams participating in the event.
