Normal, Ill. - Looking for its second tournament title in as many appearances, Illinois holds a commanding lead after 36 holes of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. The Illini shot rounds of 292 and 286 Saturday, good for a 36-hole total of 10-over-par (578). The Illini own an 18-shot lead over Central Arkansas (596) in the 15-team event.

Illinois played well across the lineup, with three of its five golfers currently among the top six the individual standings. Redshirt senior Mason Jacobs has been the top performer so far, sitting in sole possession of second place in the 81-player field at even-par. Jacobs tallied nine birdies on the day and shot a 1-under 70 in the morning round along with a 1-over 72 in the afternoon, good for a 36-hole total of 142 strokes.

Hot on the trail of Jacobs are teammates Thomas Detry and Thomas Pieters, who are both tied for fifth place at 5-over-par. Detry played two consistent rounds of golf (74-73), whereas Pieters bounced back from a first-round 79 with a blistering 3-under-par second-round score of 68.

Rounding out the action for the Orange and Blue, Charlie Danielson (71-79) and Brian Campbell (77-73) are both tied for 13th at 8-over-parr.

Central Arkansas' Pep Angles currently leads the field at -2.

Illinois will take aim at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate title during tomorrow's third and final round of play.
