Toledo, Ohio - Illinois is in 10th place after two rounds of play at the 15-team Inverness Intercollegiate, held at the difficult par 71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio and hosted by the University of Toledo. The Inverness Intercollegiate is one of the premier tournaments of the fall season, featuring seven teams that competed in last season's NCAA Championships. The site of the tournament, the Inverness Club, has hosted four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, and is the site of next year?s U.S. Senior Open.
The Illini shot a morning round of 307, then shaved five strokes off of that with an afternoon score of 302, good for 10th place with a 36-hole score of 609, 39-over par. Fellow Big Ten member Michigan State leads the field through two rounds with a score of 590, 19 shots ahead of the Illini.
Leading the way for the Illini today was sophomore James Lepp (Abbotsford, B.C., Canada). Lepp shot a 1-over in round one and added a 77 in round two to end the day tied for 16th place individually at 7-over par. Sophomore Garrett Chaussard (Millbrae, Calif.), fired the low score for the Illini during the second round with a 73. Chaussard is tied for 31st with a 36-hole score of 152, 10-over par. Fresno State's Nick Watney leads the 75-player field at 1-under (141).
The third and final round of the Inverness Intercollegiate will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. central time.
