Dublin, Ohio - The Illini men's golf team is tied for sixth place following two rounds of play today at the 37th annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio State. The Kepler is being contested for the first time this year at the par 72, 7,159-yard Muirfield Village Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that annually hosts the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament. The Illini tied for the third best round one score, a 301, and added a 303 in round two for a 36-hole total of 604 strokes that has Illinois tied for sixth with Purdue. The Illini are only one stroke back of fourth place and are just four strokes out of third place heading into tomorrow's final round.

Indiana leads the 15-team tournament, featuring nine Big Ten teams, with a score of 578, owning a four-shot lead over Northwestern. Marshall is in third at 600 while Ball State and Xavier are tied for fourth at 603, one shot in front of the Illini. Indiana's Seth Brandon and Northwestern's Kyle Moore are tied atop the 78-player field in the individual race, both at -3 (141).

Senior Blair Harkins started the day off right for the Illini, posting an even-par 72 to card the UI's top first-round score. Sophomore Danny Zimmerman picked up where Harkins left off, as Zimmerman tied his lowest round of the spring with a 1-under 71 in round two, marking the lowest round by an Illini on the day.

Three UI golfers are separated by just two shots and are all in the top 25 of the individual standings after 36 holes, led by Harkins, who added a 77 in round two and is currently tied for 16th place at 5-over par (149). Sophomore Mark Ogren continued his sharp play this spring by shooting rounds of 73 and 77 and is tied for 21st at 6-over (150), one stroke behind Harkins. Zimmerman, meanwhile, is tied for 25th at 7-over (151), one stroke behind Ogren and two behind Harkins.

The third round of the 54-hole Robert Kepler Intercollegiate will be held on Sunday, with Illinois golfers teeing off beginning at 7:20 a.m. CDT.
