Sophomore Mark Ogren shot a career-low tournament score of 213 to tie for 24th place along with teammate Kyle Hosick at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational.

Tempe, Ariz. - The Illini shot a score of 287 today during the final round of the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational, held at the par 71, 7,017-yard Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. Illinois held its position in the team standings, finishing seventh out of 16 teams with a three-round total of 854 strokes, marking Illinois' best tournament score of the 2005-06 season and the ninth-best 54-hole tournament score in school history.
Arizona won the event with a score of 830, defeating UNLV by one stroke. Ben Kern of Kansas State was medalist, finishing 14-under par on the weekend (199).
Sophomore Mark Ogren led the Illini during today's third-round action, carding a 2-under round of 70. Fellow sophomore Frank Alafoginis tied his career-low score for the second straight round, firing an even-par 71 today after also shooting 71 in yesterday's second round. The Illini's third score today was a 72 from junior Kyle Hosick, while senior Blair Harkins provided the final score with a 74.
Ogren and Hosick tied for 24th place overall to lead the UI, each finishing even par on the weekend with totals of 213. The 213 score marks the lowest 54-hole tournament total of Ogren's career. Alafoginis also posted his career-best 54-hole score with a 215, as he finished tied for 32nd place at 2-over par.
Junior Patrick Nagle saw his run of four consecutive top-10 finishes come to an end, as he tied for 50th place at +6 (219), while Harkins rounded out the lineup, tied for 52nd at +7 (220).
Illinois returns to the course next weekend, traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, April 15-16.
