Auburn, Ala. - The Illini shot a team score of 314 today and stand in 12th place after the first round of the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate, held at the par 72, 7,207-yard Auburn University Club. The host Auburn Tigers lead the 12-team event with a 5-under par score of 283.
Two Illini golfers shot scores in the 70s today to lead the Orange and Blue. Senior Mike O'Neal was the low scorer for the Illini, carding a 3-over par score of 75 to put himself in a tie for 24th place overall. Junior Blair Harkins was right behind O'Neal with a 5-over par 77 and is tied for 32nd. The rest of the UI lineup - Garrett Chaussard, Danny Zimmerman and Kyle Hosick - each posted an 81.
Memphis' Ian Rochester carded a -7 score of 65 to sit atop the leaderboard after the first round of play.
The second round of the 54-hole continues tomorrow with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
