Ogren Tied for Sixth at -2 after Two Rounds of Western Intercollegiate

Santa Cruz, Calif. - Illini junior Mark Ogren is currently tied for sixth place at 2-under par following two rounds of play at the 61st annual Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State University at the par 70, 6,432-yard Pasatiempo Golf Course. Ogren shot an even-par 70 in this morning's first round and then fired a career-low round of 2-under-par 68 in this afternoon's second round. The 68 topped his previous career-low score of 69, which he carded twice last season. Ogren's 36-hole total of 138 has him tied for sixth out of 96 golfers in the field.
Illinois is in 14th place in the team standings with a 36-hole total of 585 strokes. The Illini shot a 293 in round one and shaved one stroke off that score with a 292 in round two. Purdue leads the 18-team event with a score of 562. Long Beach State's Brett Lederer is the individual leader at -7 (133).
Senior Kyle Hosick was the UI's second scorer today. He is tied for 43rd with a score of 147 after carding rounds of 73 and 74. Fellow senior Patrick Nagle is one stroke behind Hosick, tied for 47th with a score of 148 after shooting rounds of 73 and 75.
Freshman Matt Hoffman, who his competing as an individual at this event, is tied for 62nd at 150, carding a 76 in round one followed by a career-low 74 in round two. Sophomores Jon Krick (T79th, 154) and Andy Shiels (T89th, 159) round out the Illini lineup.
The third and final round of the Western Intercollegiate will be held Tuesday.
