Rookie Gridders Open Fall Camp
Thirty-one Illini begin practice at Memorial Stadium - 8/10/98
ROOKIES OPEN UP 1998 CAMPAIGN:
The Fighting Illini opened up preparations for the 1998 season with rookie double session practices this morning and afternoon. The team worked out in individual position drills and split into offensive and defensive team groups. With the East Practice Fields not ready for full-time practice work, the team spent the morning and afternoon sessions on the Memorial Stadium turf. The afternoon temperature reached 91 degrees with the temperature on the Astroturf measuring 106 degrees under sunny skies with a 5-10 MPH SW breeze.
Following practice this afternoon, several local dentists and orthodonists worked with the UI rookies, fitting them for custom mouthpieces under the direction of UI Head Trainer Al Martindale.
