FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - On the last day of practice at Nova High School, the University of Illinois football team endured a steady drizzle in a light morning workout. Under overcast, 60 degree skies, the Illini went through special teams drills and concentrated on team offensive and defensive plays in their hour practice.

In the afternoon, the Micronpc.com Bowl officials paid homage to the weather gods and their prayers were answered with sunny skies and 70 degrees for the Beach Bash. In the mass of 3,000 Orange and Blue faithful, both Illinois and Virginia players were in attendance with their respective bands for the pep rally. The Cavaliers provided a nice introduction but Head Coach Ron Turner and the Illini contingent, including the 350-person Marching Illini band, stole the show and cranked up the Bash to a respectable level.

Tonight's action includes the taping of the Ron Turner Television Show. Airing tomorrow on WCIA Channel 3 at 7 p.m., join host Chris Widlic and the Coach for the hour-long program with visits from Danny Clark, Jameel Cook and Kurt Kitttner. It will be the final show of the season.

Tomorrow morning, Josh Whitman will be honored with the scholar-athlete award at the Academic Awards banquet. Following the banquet, there will be a coaches press conference at 1:35 p.m. The Illini get their chance to get on the field of Pro Player Stadium with the team walkthrough between 4:30-5 p.m.
