Illinois Announces Official Fan Events for Bowl Game

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois officials have announced a number of fan events for Illinois' appearance at the 2011 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The events are a pep rally and an Illini happy hour on Dec. 30, and a pregame brunch on Dec. 31. All events are sponsored in part by the Official Illini Visa Card issued by the University of Illinois Employees Credit Union.
The pep rally on Dec. 30 will be held at Union Square, at the corner of Geary and Powell, from 12:45-1:30 pm PT. Interim head coach Vic Koenning and selected Fighting Illini players will speak to the crowd, and they will be joined by members of the Marching Illini and the Illinois cheerleaders. Then, the I Fund and Varsity "I" Association will hold an Illini happy hour from 4-6 p.m. at Pedro's Cantina and 128 King Street. A live band will provide entertainment and fans can enter a business card raffle for Illini merchandise.
On Dec. 31, just before the Illini take on the UCLA Bruins at 12:30 p.m., the Bash at the Bay will be the official Illini pregame activity at Pedro's Cantina. For $35, fans can enjoy a breakfast buffet with two drink tickets. A cash bar also will be available. Special guests at the pregame party include president Michael Hogan, chancellor Phyllis Wise, athletic director Mike Thomas and head coach Tim Beckman. The Marching Illini pep band and Fighting Illini cheerleaders also will perform. Advance registration by Dec. 27 is required and tickets can be purchased at www.illinoissportstravel.com.
