CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illini fans traveling to Houston for the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29 will have a number of activities to enjoy prior to the 5 p.m. game against Baylor, including the Texas Bowl Team Luncheon, "Bash at the Bowl," TexFest and a pregame party sponsored by the University of Illinois Alumni Association. The first bowl event open to fans is the Team Luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 W. Alabama St. In conjunction with the Touchdown Club of Houston, the Texas Bowl is hosting the 2010 Team Luncheon featuring the Fighting Illini and the Baylor Bears. Each head coach will address the audience and team captains from both schools will participate in a Q&A session. Fans can purchase tickets to the luncheon by clicking here or contacting Stephanie Weaver at 832-667-2014. Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door.
Also on Dec. 28, the I Fund and Varsity I Association will host "Bash at the Bowl" at Lucky's Pub in Houston, located across the street from Minute Maid Park at the corner of St. Emanuel and Rusk Streets. The event, featuring The Charlie Lucas Band - sponsored by the official credit card of the University of Illinois, issued by the U of I Employees Credit Union - will last from 4-7 p.m. and is free of charge, but fans are encouraged to RSVP here in order for the I Fund to reserve the appropriate space. Bash at the Bowl will feature the Voice of the Illini, Brian Barnhart, and various VIP guests including former Illini greats Kurt Kittner, Robert Holcombe and Neil Rackers. Fans also can win Illini-themed door prizes throughout the event.
Before the Illini and the Bears kick off the fifth Texas Bowl on Dec. 29, the University of Illinois Alumni Association will be hosting The Official Illini Pregame Party at the Reliant Center, next to Reliant Stadium, from 2-4 p.m. Fans wishing to attend must register by noon on Wednesday, Dec. 22, here. A Texas barbecue buffet and beverages will be served, and the Illinois band and cheerleaders will make an appearance at the pregame party.
In addition, fans can attend the TexFest Pregame Festival, the official pregame party of the Texas Bowl. TexFest begins at 2 p.m. in the Reliant Stadium Blue Lot and will feature live music, Texas- and football-themed interactive games and a tailgating competition. Cheerleaders and bands from both schools will perform and both teams will enter Reliant Stadium through TexFest during their "Spirit Walks." TexFest is free to all fans.
