2011 Fall Academic All-Big Ten Teams

Forty-four University of Illinois student-athletes earned fall Academic All-Big Ten honors, the conference office announced Wednesday. The list includes Illini football, volleyball, women's soccer and men's and women's cross country athletes who are in at least their second academic year at Illinois and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better. Eight Illini volleyball players - tied for the most by any conference school - earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. The list also included 12 women's soccer players, 11 football players, nine men's cross country runners and four women's cross country runners.

Among Illinois' honorees were volleyball All-American Colleen Ward, Big Ten Defender of the Year Jenna Carosio and Big Ten Midfielder of the Year Vanessa DiBernardo from soccer, and second-team All-Big Ten tackle Jeff Allen and honorable mention All-Big Ten kicker Derek Dimke from football.

The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the winter and spring seasons, and will present the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year. Student-athletes eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letterwinners in at least their second year at their institution. Qualifying student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school. The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by conference Faculty Representatives as an addition to the conference's Academic All-Big Ten program.
