The University of Illinois officially accepted a bid today to play in the MicronPC.com Bowl Thursday, Dec. 30, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The 10th annual MicronPC.com Bowl will pit the Illini against the fourth selection from the Atlantic Coast Conference for a 6 p.m. Central time matchup at Pro Player Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins. The ACC opponent will be announced early next week.
Ticket orders will be accepted at the Illinois Athletic Ticket Office in the Assembly Hall North Box Office beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, or by phone at (217) 333-3470. Club level seats are priced at $48 and lower level seats are $39. All ticket orders will also include a $1 handling fee. Tickets will also be available on the Internet at www.fightingillini.com. Priority seating is given to FISF donors. There is no limit on ticket purchases.
The MicronPC.com Bowl is the first postseason appearance for the Fighting Illini since they defeated East Carolina, 30-0, at the 1994 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn. Illinois has appeared in 12 Bowl games dating to the 1947 Rose Bowl, and has compiled a 5-7 record in Bowl games. The Illini are 2-3 in bowl games during the 1990s.
The Fighting Illini will begin practice Dec. 3.
