Illini Quarterback Out For Northwestern Contest
Nov. 14, 2000
University of Illinois quarterback Kurt Kittner will miss this weekend's game at Northwestern (11:10 a.m., espn2) as determined today by team doctors and trainers upon further evaluation.
Kittner suffered a moderate concussion following a collision with an Ohio State defender during the third quarter of last weekend's contest against the Buckeyes.
"Kurt is repsonding well," head coach Ron Turner said. "However, we will not take any chances with an injury such as this. Kurt is obviously disappointed, but we have the utmost confidence in Dustin (Ward) that he can run this offense and lead this team just as Kurt would have. Dustin has gotten some quality reps already this year and has been in the game with the game on the line."
FROM KURT KITTNER "Of course, I want to be out there playing (against Northwestern), but I also know that the doctors are looking out for my well-being and I trust them. Dustin has been preparing all season like he is the starter and we work together very closely on all film study and at practice so I know he will be ready for this weekend."
FROM DUSTIN WARD "I am excited (about getting my first start), but I wish I wasn't getting this opportunity because Kurt is hurt. Kurt is a great leader and I know he will be a great help to me and the rest of the team this week. I have worked hard to be ready in any situation and I look forward to a good week of practice to prepare for Northwestern.."
