    This Is ILLINI Football!

in addition to the offices of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics? academic counseling staff.

Academic Services provides a wide range of services for Fighting Illini student-athletes. Those services range from study halls, which are required for freshmen to ease the transition from high school to college work, to free tutors,

career counseling and periodic seminars in time management, study skills and note-taking.

Players also take advantage of the mentoring program, through which adult members of the community lend their broad range of experiences and expertise.

Illinois? strong commitment to academic excellence is personified by many who have worn the Orange and Blue. Among them, several stand out,

such as John Wright, Sr. and Jr., the only father-son duo ever to earn Academic All-America honors. They?re pictured here with their dad/grandfather Bob Wright, former U of I gridder and long-time Illini track coach. The Wrights donated the success diagram in the computer area and sponsor an annual award given to the football player who has exerted the most effort in academics.

In addition to their academic and athletic pursuits, Illinois football players are generous in giving of their time in service to the community. They join other U of I student-athletes in the Hometown Heroes program, through which they act as mentors and positive role models, visiting local elementary and middle schools with pro-Illini, stay-in-school and anti-drug messages.

Each winter they also join their coaches in hosting the Football Family Fun Fest,

a day of community activities at Memorial Stadium.

Illini players also take time out to visit hospital patients, both young and old.
