A Letter From Director Of Athletics Ron Guenther To Illini Football Fans

Oct. 9, 2008

Fighting Illini Fans:

Homecoming is special on the University of Illinois campus. We look forward to this time each year, but this year's Homecoming may be even more special. It's about momentum, the start of the Big Ten season, and paving the road to continued success.

Coach Zook's disciplined one game at a time approach has played a key role in our recent success - which makes this the biggest game on our schedule. I respectfully encourage all Fighting Illini fans to take our fantastic home field advantage to another level this weekend. We already wear orange and show great support for our team. Let's focus our energy on raising the volume when our opponent has the ball. Let's rise to our feet as one sea of orange and create a wave of sound that envelops historic Memorial Stadium. And let's wave those 20,000 Zook Zone Towels throughout each opponent possession.

Let's give our returning Alumni a Homecoming experience to remember. Let's give our student-athletes a home field advantage that helps carry the momentum from one big win to an equally important Big Ten victory. And let's show the nation something special - a game day environment it never saw coming. Let's continue to put Illinois on the football map with an important Homecoming win this Saturday.

Sincerely,

Ron Guenther
Director of Athletics
University of Illinois
