Illinois & South Florida Announce Home-and-Home Series
Sep 3, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois and University of South Florida have finalized a home-and-home series for the 2017 and 2018 football seasons, both schools announced on Tuesday. The Fighting Illini will travel to Tampa, Fla., to face the Bulls on Sept. 9, 2017, with USF returning the game in Champaign the next season on Sept. 15, 2018.
The Big Ten will move to a nine-game conference slate starting in 2016, with each team alternating between having five home/four road games and four home/five road games every other year. The 2017 Illinois-USF meeting in Tampa falls on a year when Illinois has five Big Ten home games and four road games, keeping the opportunity open for seven Illini home games.
Though Big Ten schedules have only been released through 2017, if the pattern holds true in 2018, the Illini will have four B1G home games and five B1G road games, when the Bulls are set to come to Champaign. All Illinois future schedules as they stand today can be found here.
Illinois and South Florida have never faced each other in football. Starting with this season, USF is a member of The American Athletic Conference after spending the last eight years (2005-2012) as a member of the Big East.
The 2013 Fighting Illini host Cincinnati, another opponent from The American, on Saturday (11 a.m. CT on ESPN2) and tickets are on sale now. The next week, Illinois will host the Chicago Homecoming game at historic Soldier Field in Chicago, Sept. 14, against Washington. Tickets for the Chicago Homecoming game are on sale now.
