Stripe the Stadium 2012 will take place on Sept. 29 when Penn State comes to Memorial Stadium.
Aug. 29, 2012
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Several exciting promotions are on tap for each Fighting Illini home football game this season, including the return of Stripe the Stadium (Sept. 29 against Penn State) and Illini Street Fest (prior to each home game). Details of the main promotions are below, while the full 2012 promotions schedule can be found here.
Stripe the Stadium
For the Sept. 29 game against Penn State, the DIA will once again be asking fans to "Stripe the Stadium" orange and blue. Last season's inaugural Stripe the Stadium game against Ohio State was a huge success and we hope to make this year's bigger and better. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear either orange or blue clothing depending on the section where their seats are located. Fans seated in the odd-numbered sections and the entire north end zone are asked to wear orange, while fans in the even-numbered sections should wear blue. In addition, the premium seating areas are encouraged to get in on the action this year. See Stripe the Stadium map for details.
The Illini Walk will have a different look this year, starting two-and-a-half hours prior to game time at the corner of First Street and Kirby Avenue and serving as the official kickoff for Street Fest at each home game. Led by the Marching Illini and Illini cheerleaders, the football team will walk through the Street Fest area down First Street to Irwin Drive, then along the north end of Memorial Stadium. Fans are encouraged to line First Street and cheer on the players as they enter the stadium. Following the Illini Walk, the Marching Illini and cheerleaders will perform briefly for tailgaters as Street Fest gets underway.
During each Illini Street Fest, a free, public concert will be held at the main stage, which will be located at the corner of First and Irwin facing south. A different band will perform each game day prior to kickoff (see below for schedule). In addition to the concert, Illini Street Fest will feature several family-friendly, free activities at each game, such as inflatable games, a mini golf course and face painting. Vendors will also be available for fans to purchase food and drink. In addition, an Illini information booth will be set up for fans to get posters, plus Kids Club, I Fund and other Illinois Athletics information. At selected games, Illinois athletic teams will make appearances and sign autographs.

Paint the State Orange
Illinois fans can declare their county as Illini territory by filling out the form on the Paint the State Orange website. The more submissions a county receives, the more orange it will become on the map. As a reward, the county with the most submissions per capita will earn a visit from Coach Beckman next spring. Fans who live out of state also are encouraged to participate and turn their state or country orange and spread their Illini pride across the globe. The fan map will be updated daily.
In addition, fans can submit photos of themselves, friends and family showing their Illini spirit. A Fan of the Game will be selected from the submissions on the Monday of each home football game week. The winner will receive two tickets to that weekend's game and will be recognized on the field and on the Memorial Stadium video board. Select photos also will be featured on fightingillini.com and the Fighting Illini Athletics Facebook page.
To enter, email your photo along with your name, hometown, and county or state to email@example.com. Please note: Photos submitted for display must be appropriate. Multiple, unique photo submissions from one individual may be submitted but will only count as one entry for the contests.
Business Window Decorating Contest
The DIA will be rewarding local businesses that show their Fighting Illini spirit this football season. Businesses with Illini-themed window displays can submit photos each game week for a chance to win recognition at a football game and a visit from Coach Beckman in the Spring. More details on the window decorating contest can be found here.
Season and single game tickets for the 2012 Illinois football season, which starts Sept. 1 against Western Michigan, are on sale now for as low as $25. Order at FightingIllini.com or charge by phone at 1-866-GO-ILLINI.
