University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics officials announced Friday that the Dick Butkus-era throwback uniforms worn by the Fighting Illini football team during the Illinois Renaissance celebration Sept. 6 will be auctioned on FightingIllini.com from Sept. 5-15. Approximately 100 authentic, game-worn uniforms, including helmets, will be available for fans to bid on. In addition, at least one No. 50 Butkus jersey and one No. 77 Harold "Red" Grange jersey will be auctioned.

"These uniforms look fantastic and are going to be a great collector's item," Assistant Athletic Director Marty Kaufmann said. "The auctions are going to be a great opportunity for our fans to get a keepsake from this momentous occasion and will allow the athletic department to offset the cost of the uniforms."

Fans can locate the auctions by clicking the "Auctions" link under the "Multimedia" menu on FightingIllini.com. Proceeds from the auctions will offset the cost of purchasing this entirely new set of uniforms for the Renaissance Celebration game.
