Junior quarterback Juice Williams went 11-for-17 for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and junior running back Daniel Dufrene rushed 10 times for 60 yards and a touchdown as Illinois conducted a productive first scrimmage Monday night at Bill Walsh Field at Rantoul Township High School.

Williams hit sophomore receiver Arrelious Benn for a 14-yard touchdown on the fourth drive of the scrimmage, with redshirt-freshman Matt Eller adding the PAT. Five drives later, freshman running back Jason Ford capped the ninth drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge. No point-after was attempted.

During the red zone period, freshman placekicker Derek Dimke nailed a 39-yard field goal and Chris James caught a one-yard touchdown pass from Williams two drives later. In the only two-minute drive, Dufrene did most of the work with a 43-yard reception on a swing pass and finished the 45-yard scoring drive with a two-yard touchdown run.

Defensively, the line was the star of the show as senior defensive end Will Davis notched three sacks among his five tackles and sophomore end Clay Nurse registered 3.5 sacks and added a pass broken up. Junior end Doug Pilcher collected a pair of sacks on four tackles, while senior David Lindquist, redshirt-freshman Daryle Ballew and freshman Corey Liuget each notched one sack. Sophomore Jerry Brown finished up the d-line dominance with a half-sack.

Sophomore linebacker Martez Wilson also made his presence felt with eight tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one sack and one PBU. Sophomore safety Nate Bussey also notched eight tackles on the night, while freshman safety Supo Sanni and junior linebacker Conor Gillen each had five tackles. Sanni also added a TFL.

Offensively, sophomore Eddie McGee was 7-for-13 for 117 yards and freshman Jacob Charest was 6-for-9 for 83 yards and an interception. Ford finished his first scrimmage with 53 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and junior receiver Marques Wilkins caught five passes for 48 yards. Senior Will Judson hauled in four passes for 53 yards, Dufrene caught two balls for 48 yards and Hoomanawanui had two catches for 31 yards.

The Illini return to practice Tuesday for a single session at Camp Rantoul beginning at 3:30 p.m.
