CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After two days of split-squad practices in no pads and two more in shells, the Fighting Illini reunited as one unit and strapped on the pads Friday night under the lights in Memorial Stadium.

After a period of individual drills, Illinois went into 7-on-7 periods and team periods before the day's main attraction: the gauntlet drill. The Illini got in some good hitting for the first time all camp and you could tell the players enjoyed it.

Saturday's practice is the first two-a-day of fall camp, with the Orange and Blue practicing at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Final Exams Wrap Up, Ending Summer Term
One thing the Illini have had to deal with at the start of training camp that is out of the ordinary at the University of Illinois is final exams for summer session. Usually, finals end during the last week of July. But this year, summer classes ran through the last week of July, leaving finals for the first full week of August. That has meant the Illini have had later practices during the first week of camp.

Fan Appreciation Day Reminder
Illinois' annual Fan Appreciation Day is coming soon, as fans are invited to come meet the Illini team and coaches Sunday from 4-5 p.m. The event will be held in the Great West Hall of Memorial Stadium and fans can bring up to two items for players to sign. There is no cost for the event and parking is available in the northwest State Farm Center lot.
