CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - All-time Illinois and Chicago Bear great Dick Butkus will host a luncheon and be making appearances at the Illini Chicago Homecoming Sept. 12-14 prior to and around the Illinois-Washington football game. The luncheon, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12, from 11:30-1:30 p.m. at Wildfire Chicago, will include a silent auction with proceeds split between the I FUND, Butkus Foundation and I PLAY CLEANTM program. "We are very enthused about partnering with Illinois alumni and all-time great Dick Butkus and his foundation for the luncheon to support two great endeavors," Illinois Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. "Dick has always been very supportive of the U of I and we are extremely proud to be associated with him and his foundation."
On game day, Butkus will appear at the free Illini Fest tailgate, located in the Stadium Green area east of Soldier Field, and will participate in the coin toss at midfield.
"Everyone says there's thousands of Illini alumni and fans in the Chicago area," Butkus said. "Here's your chance to show your colors in the City of the Big Shoulders."
Dick Butkus and his son Matt formed the I PLAY CLEANTM program was formed to educate and encourage high school students to make the right choice of playing clean, rather than resorting to illegal and dangerous steroids and performance enhancing products.

Fighting Illini fans and UI students can save gas money and parking fees for the Chicago Homecoming game by booking a bus ticket to Soldier Field for the Illinois-Washington matchup.
