Illini Fan Appreciation Day Set for Aug. 12

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- University of Illinois football fans will have an opportunity to meet and get autographs from the 2012 Fighting Illini on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 5-6 p.m. on the field at Memorial Stadium. It also will be the first chance for fans to walk on the new Memorial Stadium FieldTurf. Admission for the event is free and parking will be available in the northwest lot of Assembly Hall free of charge.
Fans attending Fan Appreciation Day will be able to enter on the west side of Memorial Stadium starting at 4:45 p.m. Team posters will be available for players to sign, but fans also can bring their own items to be autographed (limit of 2 per person). Players will be seated by position groups on the field during the event. In addition to autographs, the first 100 kids will receive an Illinois mini football and all kids will have the opportunity to kick a field goal and play catch on the field at Memorial Stadium.
The Illini open the 2012 season by hosting Western Michigan at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1, the first of seven home games. Season and single-game tickets are available now.
