Illini Football Training Camp Schedule Announced
July 26, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Fighting Illini football team will open its 2013 preseason training camp at Memorial Stadium on Aug. 5 before heading north to Camp Rantoul, located on the former Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill., for a week starting Aug. 12. It marks the 14th year Illinois will hold part of its training camp in Rantoul, which is about 20 miles northeast of Champaign-Urbana.
Players will report to campus on Aug. 4 and will hold seven practices in Champaign from Aug. 5-10. For the first four days of practice (Aug. 5-8), the team will be split into two groups, with one practicing in the morning and the other in the afternoon. This format allows the coaching staff to give more repetitions and individual instruction to each player with so many newcomers going through Illinois practices for the first time.
The Fighting Illini will host Fan Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium from 4-5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, before loading up and heading to Camp Rantoul for nine practices between Aug. 12 and Aug. 19. All practices held at Camp Rantoul will be open to the public, including a scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 12. The Illini will also scrimmage on Aug. 17 at Memorial Stadium, but that will be closed to the public.
The team will return to Champaign for a practice on Aug. 20 and will continue the rest of training camp in Champaign, where all practices will be closed to the public.
Illini fans will be able to get full coverage of training camp including highlights, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage at fightingillini.com and CoachBeckman.com, as well as on Twitter and Facebook.
Season and single-game tickets for the 2013 Illinois football season, which includes seven home games, are on sale now. The Fighting Illini also will host the Chicago Homecoming game at historic Soldier Field on Sept. 14 against Washington. Tickets for the Chicago Homecoming game start at $30 and are on sale now.
*All practices in Champaign are closed to the public. All practices in Rantoul are open to the public and free to attend.
