Wide receiver Brandon Clear (Hoover HS/Hoover, Ala.) will transfer to Illinois for the 2011 football season after spending the last four seasons at Clemson University.
Clear was an honor student and earned his Bachelor's degree from Clemson in May. He will apply for a transfer year of residence waiver to become immediately eligible to play at Illinois this fall. Clear is already enrolled at Illinois for summer classes, where he will work toward a Master's degree.
The 6-5, 210 pound Clear redshirted the 2007 season at Clemson before earning varsity letters in 2008, '09 and '10. He had three catches for 106 yards in 2010, including a 70-yard touchdown against North Texas, and had six catches for 137 yards during his Tiger career. He also saw action on special teams for the Tigers, in addition to wide receiver.
Clear will be a walk-on for the Fighting Illini. His father, Sam Clear, played for the Illini in 1979 and 1980.
As a high school senior, Clear had offers from Illinois, Stanford, UCLA, Syracuse, Northwestern, North Carolina State and others before choosing Clemson. He made frequent appearances on the second season of MTV's "Two-A-Days," which featured the Hoover football team. His twin brother, Byron, also played at Clemson.
