Block I Sold Out for 2008 Football Season
June 5, 2008
University of Illinois officials announced that the Block I student section has sold out its 1,800 season tickets for the 2008 football season. The Block I has always been one of the most popular and dedicated student support groups, but this year marks the earliest date in the school's history the section has sold out.
"Selling out the Block I means a lot to Illinois football and the student support for the program," said Illinois head coach Ron Zook. "I can't say enough about the enthusiasm and excitement they add to the gameday environment. When our team climbed into the stands after wins last year, it became obvious that they felt a strong bond with the student section."
With the introduction of the student North End Zone seating in 2007, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics increased its number of available Block I season tickets from 1,200 to 1,800.
The 2008 home schedule includes six games and begins with the Illinois Renaissance Celebration set for Sept. 6 vs. Eastern Illinois. The home-opener will feature appearances by members of the Top 10 Greatest Fighting Illini football players at each position. The remaining five games include Sept. 13 Louisiana-Lafayette; Oct. 11 Minnesota (Homecoming); Oct. 18 Indiana (Foundation Day); Nov. 1 Iowa (Dad's Day); Nov. 15 Ohio State (Senior Day).
Student season tickets are currently on sale for $77, a special "Red Zone" price named for Illini Pro and College Hall of Famer Harold "Red" Grange. Orders for sideline tickets also are being accepted and can be placed online at fightingillini.com, by calling 1-866-ILLINI-1 or by visiting the Athletic Ticket Office at the Assembly Hall.
